Placenta Encapsulation

Utilizing your placenta after birth can be very beneficial to you and your baby! The main benefits are improved mood, replenished hormonal balance, increased milk production, restored iron levels, expedited healing/recovery & boosted energy levels! Ingesting your placenta can also lessen any postpartum hemmorage you may have along with assisting your uterus to return to pre-pregnancy size. Many women decide to encapsulate to ward off or minimize the effects of postpartum depression and improve their quality of sleep.  Most placentas once processed, yield anywhere from 100-240 capsules, which can last 6-8 weeks.

Encapsulation can be done by using traditional or raw methods. The traditional method is when the placenta is washed with cool water, the blood is drained as much as possible, patted dry, steamed for 45 minutes, allowed to cool, cut into thin slices, and then dehydrated at 145 degrees Fahrenheit for 12 hours.

The raw encapsulation method is done without the steaming process. The placenta is washed with cool water, the blood is drained as much as possible, patted dry, cut into thin slices then dehydrated. Dehydration for this method will be done at 160 degrees Fahrenheit. This method is not recommended for those who have a history of anxiety or depression as the placenta capsules will be more concentrated.

Placenta Prints

A placenta print is a great way to commemorate your placenta and all the hard work it has done to sustain your baby.  Prints are done using watercolor paper and can come in any color you desire using food-safe coloring. The most common print is a tree of life as the placenta most resembles.

Tinctures

A Placenta tincture is a long-term option for placenta benefits. It aids with hormone balance, energy boosts, along with emotional well-being. Tinctures also assist in breastmilk production, infant teething pain & helpful in resuming menstrual cycles postpartum. I make placenta tinctures using a small raw or steamed bit of placenta cut into tiny tiny pieces. Then put into a 4oz jar filled with 190-proof vodka. This tincture is ready for use after 6 weeks. Tinctures can last up to a year.
